The best time to visit Yamba is during spring (September to November) and autumn (March to May). During these months, the weather in Yamba is pleasant with mild temperatures and low rainfall, ideal for outdoor activities such as swimming, surfing and hiking.
Spring brings a fresh natural landscape, trees sprouting and flowers blooming, creating a vivid and beautiful natural picture. Autumn has a cool and pleasant climate with warm sunshine and long afternoons. If you are a surfer, summer (December to February) is the ideal time to visit Yamba, although the weather can be hotter and more humid. Enjoy a vacation on idyllic beaches
Patrolled beaches offer safe swimming for young families. Main Beach is great for swimming and surfing and has a 30 metre ocean pool carved into the rocks at the southern end. Pippi Beach and Turner Beach are also great patrolled beaches. After swimming, head to the rocks at the end of either beach to explore the marine life that lives in the tidal rock pools. Whiting Beach is a family friendly beach with shallow water and gentle waves, perfect for kids who prefer calmer waters and shallow water play. Surf
Yamba ’s best surf breaks can be found at Turners Beach and Main Beach, or venture down to Angourie for its iconic surf break. Angourie National Surfing Reserve was the first surf reserve in NSW and is renowned for its great waves and natural beauty. Angourie is a popular surf break for experienced surfers and is considered one of the best in Australia, with beginners even able to paddle on low wave days. One of the best things to do in Yamba for beginner surfers is to take a lesson with the local pros at the Yamba-Angourie Surf School.

Cycling

Whale watching
Wildlife enthusiasts will love whale watching tours that offer spectacular encounters during the annual migration from June to October. Boat tours are offered by Yamba Whale Watch, Reel Time Fishing and Yamba Fishing and Charters. On land, the Yamba Lighthouse and Iluka Bluff Lookout in Bundjalung National Park are great whale watching spots.

Visit a picturesque peach farm
For those craving a rural escape, The Peach Farm offers a great place to find local produce in a rural setting in Lower Clarence. Visitors to the family farm can pay a fee to feed the animals before gathering in the lovely cafe for cakes, scones, bread rolls and sausage rolls.
Peach jam and spicy peach sauce are also available at the farm shop and you can pick peaches from October to November. They are temporarily closed for renovations but check their Facebook page for current updates.

Visit Clarence Distillery
Set your clocks to Clarence Valley time and head to the Clarence Distillery for a tasting, where you can sample spirits and cocktails made with Chilli Vodka, Ruby Rosella Gin or The Duke dry gin. In addition to supporting local producers, this rustic industrial distillery donates $2 from every bottle of vodka to organizations dedicated to protecting the coastal cassowary.

Walk along the Yuraygir Coastal Walkway
The Yuraygir multi-day walk along the Clarence Coast is dotted with stops for snorkelling, swimming or whale watching. This 65km multi-day walk follows the coast from Angourie to Red Rock with overnight stops at stunning beach campsites.
The trail passes through the traditional homelands of the Gumbaynggirr and Yaegl peoples along an ancient emu route. Time it right (around October) and you'll be able to soak up the spectacular calico meadows.

Yamba is loved for its quirky charm, and a big part of that is down to its local independent fashion and homeware stores that wouldn’t look out of place in Byron Bay (but without the crowds). Hop between One Country Mouse, Podium (which stocks Australian labels like Zulu & Zephyr and Rowie) and Island Collective while you hunt for treasures to take home. Don’t miss Summi’s on Pilot Hill – a local label selling vintage cotton bath towels and ribbed summer dresses.

Meet the makers at Yamba Market
To see Yamba at its most vibrant, you must visit the farmers market, open on Wednesdays from 7am in the Whiting Beach car park.
Young creatives have flocked to the Northern Rivers and you'll get a sense of this as you stroll around the weekly markets, where you'll find street vendors selling everything from sprouts to sourdough bread and sushi.
Also check out the Yamba River Markets, held on the fourth Sunday of every month at Ford Park on the Clarence River. You’ll find a wide range of local businesses selling everything from fresh produce to fashion.
