The best time to visit Bruny Island , Tasmania is during spring (September to November) and summer (December to February). During these times, the weather is usually warm and pleasant, suitable for exploring the island's beautiful landscape and participating in outdoor activities such as hiking, visiting the beach and enjoying the cuisine.
Autumn (March to May) is also milder than winter but can be colder and rainier. Winter (June to August) is often colder and has more rainy days, not the ideal time for outdoor tourism on Bruny Island.

How to get to Bruny Island
To get to Bruny Island , you need to travel from the city of Hobart in Tasmania. There are two main ways to get to Bruny Island:
Getting to the jetty: From Hobart, drive to Kettering jetty, about 30 minutes drive from Hobart city centre.
Ferry to Bruny Island: From Kettering, you will board the ferry to Bruny Island. The ferry takes about 20 minutes to travel from Kettering across the Channel to Bruny Island.
You can drive to Kettering yourself or you can arrange tours from Hobart to Bruny Island, which often include ferry tickets and a tour of the island's attractions.

To Cape Queen Elizabeth Arch
Once you’ve taken the ferry and arrived on the island, head south for less than 20 minutes on the Bruny Island Main Road (B66) to your first stop, the Cape Queen Elizabeth Trail. It’s easy to miss if you don’t know where to look, so head for the brightly signposted Bruny Island Honey and just across the road you’ll see a small car park with a wide sandy path leading into the distance.
There are so many great places to visit on Bruny that you might want to cut the whole Cape Queen Elizabeth walk short and just go as far as Mars Bluff to see the stunning Arch of Rocks rising out of the ocean, which is the highlight of the walk anyway. Allow 2 hours for the whole tour, although it can be shorter if you are lucky enough to be here at low tide (there is a very straight beach path if conditions permit).

Bruny Island Cheese and Brewing Company Tour
Backtrack about 2 minutes from the Cape Queen Elizabeth and Bruny Island Honey trail along the same main road to Bruny Island Cheese & Beer Co, which has a very enticing sign “CHEESE AND BEER”.
This is a great local cheese shop, cafe, bakery and brewery that serves up cheese tastings, beer tastings (4 different beers to sample), fresh sourdough bread, local wines and some pretty amazing cheese lunches like wood-fired pizzas and croque monsieur.
They have a lovely outdoor garden with plenty of seating, so take the opportunity to unwind after your hike with a cheese lunch and a cheeky afternoon drink. Alternatively, about 100m away is Get Shucked, a hugely popular oyster bar offering a wide range of local fresh and cooked oysters.

Take in the view at Truganini Lookout at The Neck
The stunning sight that draws visitors to Bruny Island in the first place is The Neck, an impossibly narrow strip of sand that connects the north and south of Bruny into a single island.
Just an 8 minute drive from Bruny Island Cheese & Beer Co, you’ll find a large car park on the right side of the road down a long set of wooden stairs. On a clear day, you can see a wider view of Bruny Island in the distance, but even in the smoke (or rain or fog), it’s no wonder this is the island’s most iconic view!

To Cape Bruny Lighthouse
After taking in the stunning views of The Neck, hop in your car and take the 45-minute drive to the tip of Bruny Island, passing through South Bruny National Park to reach Bruny Point. From the car park, it’s a 5-minute walk up the hill to the lighthouse and take in the stunning views. However, for a bird’s-eye view, join a guided tour to climb the spiral staircase to the top while learning about the fascinating history of Bruny Point.
This heritage-listed lighthouse has almost 200 years of history guiding ships safely around Tasmania's south coast - first lit in 1838, continuously manned until 1993 and still proudly stands as the second oldest lighthouse in Australia.
Incredibly, this stunning 114m structure was completed in just 18 months by a team of 12 prisoners who were promised freedom in exchange for quick work.

Relax at Adventure Bay
A 50-minute drive from Bruny Head, make your final stop of the day at Adventure Bay to look for the rare and elusive white wallabies found only on Bruny Island . Both Bennetts wallabies (cute little brown wallabies found all over Tasmania) and albino white wallabies can be spotted in the grass and bush around the Bruny Island Cruises office, Adventure Bay Caravan Park and along other quiet roads at the southern end of Adventure Bay.
