A day of wandering around the fascinating Tokyo DisneySea theme park

Tokyo DisneySea is the only theme park themed around the myths and legends of the sea. Each of the eight themed ports has attractions, restaurants, shops, etc., inviting visitors to the world of 'Where adventure and imagination set sail!'.

Disney parks in Japan actually consist of two parks: Tokyo DisneySea and Tokyo Disneyland , both located right next to each other just outside the busiest areas of Tokyo Japan .

Among them,  Tokyo DisneySea is a special amusement park with landscapes and details unlike any other park.

About Disney Sea Tokyo theme park

Built and completed in 1983, Tokyo DisneySea is a unique amusement park in the Disney park chain located at Tokyo Disney Resort, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Tokyo DisneySea is a large area of 465,000 m² located near Maihama Station and Tokyo Disneyland Station, this is the first Disneyland park built outside the United States. Inspired by stories and legends about the sea, this is a marine-themed amusement park divided into 8 separate areas and it attracts many tourists, especially in the Asia-Pacific region.

Late May is considered the ideal time to visit Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea, during this time the weather is somewhat pleasant, not too hot like summer and not too cold like winter. If you visit Tokyo Disneyland on holidays such as Halloween, Easter and Christmas, you will experience the park decorated splendidly according to the theme of each festival, which is also the most exciting time of the year.

Buying tickets in advance is essential! Crowds tend to line up here even 2 hours before the park opens and you have to waste time buying tickets at this point. You can buy tickets online through the official DisneySea website - the easiest option. You can also buy Disney Park tickets at 7-Eleven kiosks but it is often difficult to find English buttons. The last option is for anyone staying at a Disney hotel. You can easily buy tickets at the front desk here but the price of staying at a hotel is very expensive.

Disney Sea Tokyo is much busier than the parks in the United States. Japanese fans are very passionate about all things Disney, so even on a mild weekday, some areas can still feel very crowded. But rest assured that for the most part, everyone is very polite and respectful of each other's personal space, and there won't be any rude line-cutting.

Waiting in line for the park to open can be the worst part of the day. To get the most out of your day, you should arrive at least an hour before the gates open. On busier days, you should arrive two hours early, so you can be as close to the front of the line as possible to get inside.

When the gates finally open and you enter, you will pass by dozens of cheerful cast members waving to greet you. This is a ritual that every Disney park does and they all seem very happy to welcome you to the park.

Different themed areas at Tokyo DisneySea

Mediterranean Harbor: A Romantic Southern European Port Town

The gateway to Tokyo DisneySea is a Southern European port town with a quaint charm. Comprising three distinct areas, the port invites visitors to a world of adventure and discovery through a picturesque fishing village, a charming neighborhood with romantic waterways, and a striking Renaissance fortress.

Mediterranean Harbor is modeled after Renaissance Italian port towns. While there is no specific town that was inspired by it, you will be surrounded by incredibly accurate Renaissance architecture, Venetian canals, bobbing gondolas, and traditional Italian restaurants. Since Mediterranean Harbor is the first land you enter when entering the park, it acts as the de facto “main street” with numerous souvenir shops and restaurants. Another unique aspect of this land is that the buildings surrounding the waterfront are more than just facades. Inside are the MiraCosta hotel rooms

There are two entry points to the Mysterious Island on either side of the harbour. The bridge on the left is modelled after the famous ‘Ponte Vecchio’ in Florence with all the old shops and boutiques practically hanging off the side of the bridge. On the north side of the harbour is a large medieval fortress where you can dine at Magellan’s or play in the fortress. The Mediterranean harbour certainly has the most restaurants and souvenir shops, so if you’re looking for something to eat or a specific item to take home, this is the place to go.

American Waterfront: Nostalgic American Waterfronts in New York and Cape Cod

In the United States at the turn of the 20th century, there were two distinct port cities. New York had the energy of a big city with its bustling streets and elevated railways, while the charming fishing village of Cape Cod had a quaint, cozy, and scenic feel.

You’ll see stone temples rising from the treetops, ancient pyramids, and crumbling structures. Despite two major roller coasters, there’s not much else to see and do in this area of Tokyo DisneySea . But the lush greenery and adventurous scenery make this a great place to come and relax if you just want a break!

Arabian Coast: The world of Arabian nights is filled with magic and mystery

The Arabian Sea resembles the great city of Agrabah in 'Aladdin', originally inspired by the book '1001 Arabian Nights'. The largest cafe-style restaurant is located here, serving Middle Eastern, Indian and Japanese cuisine. This part of the park feels vast.

Mermaid Lagoon: kingdom of the little mermaid

An underwater kingdom is home to Ariel, the little mermaid, and her friends right at the heart of Disney Sea Tokyo . A colorful and whimsical “under the sea” world can be found at Mermaid Lagoon. Enjoy fun rides along with shopping and delicious food in this underwater kingdom that is home to Ariel and her friends from the Disney animated film The Little Mermaid.

Mermaid Lagoon is beautiful but lacks quality rides. The exterior and interior of the Lagoon are inspired by The Little Mermaid. The castle in the center of the lagoon is designed to resemble King Triton’s Palace. Shell-shaped corals the size of small buildings protrude from the ground and greet visitors. The interior is worth exploring in the late afternoon to escape the heat or on rainy or cold days.

The rides inside are aimed at younger children so older kids and adults may find them a bit basic. But the design is gorgeous, really making you feel like you're under the sea.

Mysterious Island: The secret base of eccentric genius Captain Nemo

Inside the smoldering crater is a hidden scientific base founded by the eccentric genius Captain Nemo, where he can prove possible what others think is impossible. Journey into the mysterious and unknown world in vehicles designed by Captain Nemo.

Mysterious Island was inspired by Jules Verne’s science fiction novels about underwater adventures, sea creatures, and the infamous Captain Nemo. The world looks like an underwater dream. Despite its name, the island is not an island. Instead, it is built on a giant land mass that can be seen throughout the park. This is Mount Prometheus! The volcano at the top of the mountain erupts with a huge explosion all day long. Mysterious Island DisneySea Tokyo  has some of the most exciting and unique rides in the park, as well as a number of snack kiosks and shops for quick bites, all in a relatively small area.
